Victorian Era vs Modern Era- Chokers

Victorian Era vs Modern Era
Object: Women's Choker Accessory

In the modern world , people are very easy to create stereotypes or attach meaning to very innocent topics/ objects.
I chose the choker as my object from the Victorian Era women's fashion.
Doing research on chokers in the modern day, there are various opinions on what a choker means.
Two of the statements that are to raise eyebrows are as follow; guys see it as women advertising themselves as promiscuous and there are actually memes made about it as well.
The other statement made says that it insinuates a collar, like an animal, a submissive.
These ideas are said to be connotations that men made because women are often objectified and sexualised - never were men born to believe that chokers indicate submissiveness, but instead they are taught this through media, pornography and power relations between men and women.
Chokers actually started off very innocent, Queen Victoria(1819-1901) wore a choker during her reign, and it is said that Alexandra, Princess of Wales(1819-1925) wore chokers to cover a scar on her neck from a childhood operation.
Princess Alexandra started to set trends, and ladies started to copy her- In the Victorian Era, wealthy ladies wore chokers as fashion statements.
Concluding all this, one can see that the trend of the choker started very innocent and got connotation through time and media.
